As part of the business community, we recognize our role in dismantling systemic racism. Right now, this means supporting the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020, which addresses major areas of immediate concern in the realm of policing by banning no-knock warrants in drug cases, incentivizing bans on choke holds and carotid holds, and increasing police accountability through the weakening of the qualified immunity defense, increased reporting, and body cameras. The violent and racially biased tactics of police are intolerable and need to stop. We cannot stand by while members of our own business families face the brutal realities of racism and while our businesses lose out because unjust policing has made our communities unsafe. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act explicitly prohibits racial profiling in policing, and also decreases the militarization of police, which are two important steps in building healthier communities whose members can live freely and whose businesses can therefore thrive. We urge you to support the proposed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020. The emotional toll of racism makes it harder for us to do our jobs as business leaders. Let’s help create change at the policy level and begin to alleviate some of this burden by supporting the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
